A Review on the Managements of Conjunctivochalasis
Abstract:   (505 Views)
Conjunctivochalasis is a bilateral conjunctival disease diagnosed by loose and redundant conjunctival folds, commonly in the inferior bulbar area. It is a common reason for ocular irritation, particularly in subjects older than 60 years of age. There is no treatment for asymptomatic patients. However, symptomatic patients could be treated by a variety of medical and surgical therapies, which will be discussed in this review. Medical treatment using lubrication and anti-inflammatory drugs are used in the first step. In cases with persistent symptoms, surgical management may be used for the elimination of symptoms. Several surgical methods have been used with different success rates, such as conjunctival cauterization, excision of the conjunctiva, fixation of the conjunctiva to the sclera, conjunctival ligation, conjunctivoplasty, and radiowave electrosurgery. Conjunctival cauterization and conjunctival excision are the most popular surgical techniques among ophthalmologists.
